GivingTuesday is a global day of generosity designed to spark a powerful wave of giving and kindness. Born from a simple idea in 2012, it has grown into a worldwide movement where individuals, nonprofits, and businesses unite to support causes and create lasting change. It’s not just about donating money; it’s about volunteering, sharing resources, and coming together as a community to make a difference.
GivingTuesday is celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States. This strategic timing kicks off a season of generosity, as global campaigns are often planned to build momentum before and after the main event, turning the spirit of giving into a continuous, year-long commitment.
framework.
Generosity is a lifelong commitment to thinking of others, our communities, and ourselves. While the global celebration takes place on a designated Tuesday, the most successful campaigns are launched weeks in advance and often extend well into December. Initiatives like #GivingEveryTuesday emerged when people asked, “What if every Tuesday was GivingTuesday?”—a series of weekly opportunities to give, volunteer, and show kindness across communities worldwide. It’s proof that the movement’s impact isn’t confined to just one day.
GivingTuesday Bangladesh is the local manifestation of the global GivingTuesday movement, tailored to ignite the spirit of generosity within our nation. It brings together communities, nonprofits, and businesses to celebrate giving and catalyze impactful change on a national scale.
With the collaboration of ODIR, Bangladesh officially joined the GivingTuesday movement, marking a major milestone in our commitment to generosity. The journey began with a vibrant celebration of the 10th GT Day on November 30, 2021. Building on that momentum, official activities kicked off in 2022, and our efforts were spotlighted with an official social media announcement from GivingTuesday on April 3, 2023. This series of milestones underscores our collective drive to amplify local impact on a global stage. Now GivingTuesday Bangladesh movement has many partnership organisations, businesses, institutes and individuals working together.
